RHR International Awards: Excellence in Consulting Psychology

WOOD DALE, Ill., Sep 08, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Society of Consulting Psychology recently announced the recipients of two of its highest honors. Sponsored by RHR International Company, a world leader in executive and organizational development, the awards were presented at the annual American Psychological Association convention.
The "RHR International Award for Excellence in Consultation for 2008" was presented to Lester L. Tobias, Ph.D., ABPP. This award is given to an individual with a distinguished career in the practice of consulting psychology. It honors a founding member of RHR International, Perry L. Rohrer, who epitomized the standards of excellence that RHR and the Society seek to perpetuate.
Dr. Tobias is Managing Partner of Nordli, Wilson Associates and has been an active consulting psychologist for more than 35 years. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology. The American Psychological Association has elected him to be a Fellow, citing his excellence in advancing psychology, and has also presented him with the 1991 National Psychological Consultants to Management Award. Dr. Tobias is the author of a book, Psychological Consulting to Management, as well as numerous journal publications and articles. He earned his bachelor's degree from Grinnell College, and his master's degree and doctorate in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The "RHR International Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award for 2008" was presented to Melanie Flanders, Ph.D. This award is given to a doctoral student or recent graduate for exemplary research contributing to the theory or practice of consulting psychology. Dr. Flanders was recognized for her dissertation "Characteristics of Effective Mid-Level Leaders in Higher Education." As this year's winner, she will present her paper at the 2009 APA annual meeting.
Dr. Flanders is a consulting psychologist/facilitator with Sentis, a firm of psychologists and safety professionals who specialize in enhancing safety and leadership performance. She is the holder of a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Missouri - Columbia, where her research has already been put to use in shaping current and future leadership programs. Professional memberships include the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Society of Consulting Psychology.
